Lee Middleton’s company is the biggest producer of baby dolls in United States. She is the person behind the world famous Lee Middleton dolls. Lee Middleton original dolls were established in 1978. these dolls are created in the style of amazing life like dolls.
For about two decades, late Middleton Urick originally designed and created the Lee Middleton babies. She started making dolls in 1978. Lee made her first doll to look like her two kids and later her friends and relatives. She became popular quickly with her talent. Soon she was given the charge of cottage industry.
With increased in supply and demand for her dolls, Lee had to look for larger locations for production. She opened a 34,000 square foot doll-manufacturing unit in Belpre, Ohio in 1989. She produced several baby dolls in a year that was more than any other manufacturer in America. So much so was the production that the Mayor of Belpre was inspired to declare the city as The Baby Doll Capital of the World.
Lee’s company made progress for 20 years and she was leading in the trade. Suddenly, she died unexpectedly on January 30, 1997. but the company did not stop. It has followed the guiding lines of Lee. They have made her many original designs in production still.
After Lee, there are new but skilled artists who now make dolls on new designs. They are, Reva Schick, Eva Helland, Linda Henry and Mavis Snyder. They make almost life like baby dolls that are almost like real baby whom you can caress.
The celebrities including Demi Moore, Oprah Winfrey and Donna Karan tell that they are the great fans of these Dolls. Though Lee started her work in a simple fashion, at kitchen table, but her talent is appreciated and will always be cherished.
